Dramatic footage shows moment protesters walked out to block M25 traffic near Leatherhead

Dramatic footage taken by Insulate Britain has shown the moment protesters walking out on to the M25.

The climate action group blocked a number of roundabouts and junction on Wednesday morning (September 15).

Protesters targeted roads near the Dartford Crossing as well as further along the M25 in Surrey.

Footage taken by the action group has revealed the moment they walked out in front of the busy motorway.

Traffic was held in a number of locations while the incident was dealt with.

At midday, there were still significant hold-ups around J1 at Dartford as a result of the protests.

Protesters on the M25 this morning

A statement from Kent Police said: "Kent Police was called at around 8.20am on Wednesday 15 September 2021 to a report that two groups of people were obstructing the road around Junctions 1A and 1B of the M25.

"Officers are in attendance and are engaging with the individuals involved, some of whom are reported to have glued their hands to the road surface.

"Motorists are advised to expect delays and use an alternative route if possible. National Highways traffic officers are also at the scene in order to manage the traffic.

A statement on the Insulate Britain website said: "89 people from Insulate Britain, which has members from all over the country, blocked roundabouts and a carriageway on the M25 early this morning.

"Insulate Britain says actions will continue until the government makes a meaningful commitment to insulate Britain’s 29 million leaky homes, some of the oldest and most energy inefficient in Europe.
