Air ambulance rushes to ‘tragic’ bin lorry accident in Swanley

Emergency services have rushed to deal with an incident involving a Sevenoaks District Council bin lorry in Swanley.

Kent Police confirmed the collision happened at the junction of New Road and Swanley Lane shortly after 11:30 this morning (September 15).

The leader of the Sevenoaks Council has labelled the incident 'tragic' and said police were investigating.

Ambulance crews, police and the air ambulance are all reported to have attended with the road closed in both directions.

A tweet from Peter Fleming, the leader of the council, said: "Earlier today, a Sevenoaks District Council Official refuse vehicle was involved in a tragic incident in Swanley Lane.

"There is an ongoing Police investigation and therefore there are no further details at this time.

"My thoughts are with everyone involved in this incident.

The road remains closed in both directions while police deal carry out investigations.

KentLive has contacted the ambulance service for a statement.

A statement issued to KentLive by Kent Police said: "Kent Police was called at 11.35am on 15 September to a collision at the junction of New Road and Swanley Lane, Swanley.

"Officers and ambulance crews are at the scene and roads closures are currently in place."
