Kent Police has set up a diversion and are attending the scene of a protest after Insulate Britain shut down a junction on the M25.

The police were called at 8.10am on Monday, September 13 2021, to a report a group of people were obstructing the road at a roundabout where the B1273, in Swanley, and junction 3 of the M25 meet.

Officers rushed to the scene and are engaging with the individuals involved.

A diversion, which will allow drivers to join the motorway at junction 4, is in place.

Traffic is moving, but motorists are advised to expect delays and, if possible, use an alternative route.

A tweet from Kent Police said: "Motorists attempting to join the M25 from Swanley, at junction 3, may encounter delays due to an obstruction caused by a group of people.

"Our officers are at the scene and engaging with those involved.

"Traffic is moving but motorists are advised to expect delays and, if possible, use an alternative route."

The organisation are demanding urgent action on climate change from PM Boris Johnson, having written to him in August threatening action if they did not get a response.

It has warned this is 'just the start of action and it claims to action on the M25 today was a necessary inconvenience to force the issue on climate change.

The group also targetted M25 locations in Surrey, Essex and Hertfordshire.

It has led to widespread disruption on the motorway as well as on surrounding joining roads.
