Firefighters rescue child trapped in a cave at Broadstairs

A child was rescued by firefighters today (September 12) after they became trapped in a cave at Broadstairs.

Kent Fire and Rescue Services was called to Whiteness Road, Broadstairs, shortly before 3pm by the Coastguard.

Emergency services had received reports that a young person had climbed into a cave and was unable to get back out.

Partnering with the Coastguard, Kent Fire and Rescue Service dispatched three fire engines to assist with the rescue.

In the end, the child was rescued safely using one of the fire services ladders.

In a statement,the fire service said: "Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Whiteness Road, Broadstairs by the Coastguard to reports of a young person that had climbed into a cave and was unable to get back down.

"Crews used a short extension ladder and walked them down to be reunited with their parents."

The rescue ended at around 3.20pm.
