Pictures taken from the scene of a plane crash in Ashford have showed the scale of the emergency response.

Tragically a man has died following a light aircraft crash near Ashford this morning (September 10).

Kent Police say a light aircraft was found in a field in Tar Pot Lane near the village of Ruckinge.

Nearly a dozen police cars have been set-up around the crash site with forensics teams also thought to be on the scene.

Traffic officers, highways workers and paramedics have also been pictured working near the scene.

The area around the crash site is very rural with large fields surrounding Tar Pot Lane.

Kent Police said they would be working with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch following the incident.

Further details surrounding the crash are still emerging.

A statement from Kent Police said: "Kent Police was called just before 10am on Friday 10 September 2021 following a report of a concern for a missing light aircraft which was subsequently found in a field in Tar Pot Lane, Ashford.

"One man has been declared deceased at the scene by SECAMB."

Tragically the aircraft was then found in a field in Tar Pot Lane near Ashford. The field is close to Bilsington, on the Romney Marsh near Ashford. Paramedics were called and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances and officers will be liaising with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) Police near the scene of the crash in Tar Pot Lane KentOnline editor Dan Wright, who is at the scene, said: "Police and the other emergency services have set up a rendezvous point on the other side of Tar Pot Lane to the crash. "Forensic teams have been here as well". A spokesperson for the AAIB said: “An accident in the Ashford, Kent area involving a light aircraft has been notified to the AAIB. "An investigation has been launched and a multi-disciplinary team of inspectors are on their way to the accident site.”

"Initial enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances and officers will be liaising with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch."

The Coastguard has previously confirmed that they were alerted by Air Traffic Control of a missing light aircraft in the south east area early in the morning.

The search and rescue helicopter from Lydd was sent.

"An investigation has been launched and a multi-disciplinary team of inspectors are on their way to the accident site.”
