Customers at a café in Beckenham got a little more than they bargained for when football legend Rio Ferdinand visited for breakfast.
The former Manchester United defender popped into the Mega Café on Elmers End Road at around 8am on Wednesday (September 8) for a bite to eat.
The football icon arrived by himself and ordered a full-English breakfast with a black tea.
The café has only recently been refurbished and staff members were pleasantly surprised to see the former England international turn up for some breakfast.
Rio also smiled with fans as he took pictures with staff members and customers.
Owner of the café, Deniz Macit, 44, told KentLive that the star was "very friendly".
"It was Rio's first time in the café and it was a total surprise," he said.
"Most of the customers and some of our staff recognised him, so the word got round quite quickly.
"We do provide perfect service for everyone so we treated him as we would with anyone else."
Rio was in the café for around half-an-hour and ordered a full-English breakfast.
Deniz added that Rio walked in like any usual customer, and even asked the staff where he should order.
"He asked us whether it was table service or whether he had to order at the counter," he said.
"He was just very polite and friendly and had no ego at all."
The football pundit even sent a video saying hello to Deniz's daughter and told the staff that he would be back again.
"While we had a chat he told me it's exactly as he expected," Deniz added.
"He said it was as good as he had heard it was with the food and the atmosphere.
"He also told us he'd be back!"
Deniz posted his selfie with Rio on Facebook and wrote: "A footballing legend is in town, having breakfast at the mega café on Elmer's End road.
"Beckenham attracts all the stars."
One local replied in the comments and wrote: "Awh love Rio. Supporting our local economy, hero!"
