Daughter issues heartbreaking message after dad’s body found in Lydd

The daughter of a Lydd man who went missing last week has released a heartfelt message after a body was found in the search for her father.

A man's body was discovered in Romney Marsh on Tuesday (September 7) during the search for 68-year-old Wayne Leppard, who went missing last week.

While no formal identification had yet taken place on Tuesday, Kent Police explained they had informed Mr Leppard's family of the discovery and they were no longer appealing for information.

Mr Leppard's daughter, Sam, took to Facebook to thank everyone who assisted in the search for her father.

She said: "To the amazing human beings of the Marsh and beyond that helped us in our desperate search for my Dad.

"There isn't a thank you big enough for all of your help in our search to bring my Dad home.

"If love and support could've brought him home he would have lived forever."

Ms Leppard went on to thank the "incredible" Kent Police, Search and Rescue teams, the Coastguard and the RNLI who she says "never once gave in on bringing my Dad home".

She added: "Thank you from the bottom of our broken hearts."

Ms Leppard had previously taken to Facebook to thank residents of the Romney Marsh area for their help and pleaded for more people to join the search.

She wrote: "On behalf of all of us I just want to say the biggest thank you for every single message of support and love that has come in to us.

"We are just broken and each message has helped our hearts.

"Thank you to everybody who turned up on our doorstep these last two days and gave up their days to help us find Dad or just to be with Mum, you are THE most incredible humans and we are so lucky to have you. We love you all."

A police search operation was conducted in Romney Marsh

No suspicious circumstances were identified and Kent Police is preparing a report for the coroner.

The discovery of the body in Romney Marsh follows significant searches in the area over the last few days for Mr Leppard.

A number of police cars were pictured at the scene on Saturday (September 4) with officers exploring the area.

A statement from Kent Police said: "Following the discovery of a man’s body in Romney Marsh on Tuesday 7 September 2021, Kent Police is no longer appealing to locate a man who had been reported missing from the area.

"Formal identity has not taken place, however the family of a 68-year-old man who was reported missing on Friday 3 September have been informed.

"No suspicious circumstances have been identified and Kent Police is preparing a report for the coroner."
