Parts of Kent will be warmer than Crete today (September 7) as a mini heatwave warms the south coast.

The UK has been subject to a largely grey and disappointing summer this year, but some late sunshine has arrived to lift spirits in September.

The south coast in particular is feeling the warmth this week, with Kent seeing some of the warmest temperatures in the whole country.

Crete, a favourite holiday destination for people from the UK, is set to be colder than Dartford during this mini heatwave.

Heraklion in Crete will be peaking at 25C today according to the Met Office.

The largest city and ceremonial capital of Crete is traditionally one of the hottest holiday destinations in Europe, and temperatures there will peak at 25C at around 2pm today.

However, Dartford will reach even higher levels today with peak temperatures of 28C expected today.

Dartford is one of the warmest parts of Kent, with temperatures set to spike to 28C at 3pm today.

BBC Weather forecasters warn it could be even hotter than that, predicting searing highs of 29C in Dartford today and 27C tomorrow.

However, autumn is rapidly approaching and the warm weather will not last forever.

According to the Met Office, the warm temperatures are set to subside by Thursday and give way to much milder and cloudier conditions.

Dartford is set to drop to around 22C by Thursday, falling to 20C by Monday next week.
