A new pizza shop has opened its doors in Tonbridge this week.

The Fat Pizza celebrated its opening day on Bank Holiday Monday, August 30, and the reaction from locals has been very positive.

The new shop can be found in the Angel Walk Shopping Centre in the heart of the high street.

Despite having a number of stores across the country in places such as Milton Keynes, Norwich and Altrincham, this is the first Fat Pizza shop in Kent.

Ripu Chhina, 42 and wife of the founder, told KentLive that there are big plans ahead for the future.

"We're all about being fresh," she said.

"We make all our pizzas fresh and it's our own secret recipe which is followed by all of our stores.

"We've grown a lot in the last year and a half and we've now got stores all over England."

The Tonbridge store is now the 25th Fat Pizza location in the country, and there's a wide range of food and drink on offer.

Customers can buy pizzas, gourmet burgers and desserts from the Fat Pizza store, as well as milkshakes and the very popular Tango Ice Blast.

We visited the Fat Pizza in Tonbridge on Saturday (September 4) and ordered the signature 'The Fat Pizza' in regular size.

This came with cheese, onions, ham, beef, pepperoni, bell peppers, sweetcorn and chicken.

The regular was definitely the perfect size for a lunchtime meal, and the pizza was delicious.

The big standout for me had to be the freshly-baked dough which was definitely different to other pizzas I've had.

I also ordered the Biscoff milkshake to wash down my pizza, and it was like heaven in a cup.

The consistency was near perfect, with it not being too thick but just about right.

Boxes, pans and bags have also been custom-made for the one-of-a-kind 24-inch pizza which is on the menu.

"Although this is our first shop in Kent we are definitely looking to grow," she said.

"We chose Tonbridge because we really like the location, and to be fair, it's done really well in the first few days.

"We've had really good reviews from people so that's great."

When compared to other popular pizza chains, the Fat Pizza claims it has a unique twist.

The store prides itself on the freshly-made dough which is constantly being churned out from staff members in-store.

"It's 100% fresh and it's actually my recipe," she added.

"It's used in all our stores and we have a secret blend which we use meaning there's consistency.

"We have our own app, website and call centre which takes all the orders, meaning our staff only need to concentrate on the food and the quality of service."
