A man has spotted a strange object in the sky above north Kent.

Stephen Sangster, 39, from Orpington was filming the night sky before noticing something rather peculiar.

Some people who have seen the video claim it must be aliens, while other suggestions range from a plane on fire to a sophisticated firework.

The footage shows a glow which appears to be travelling to the right before turning and flying towards the left.

In the first few seconds of the video a trail can be seen behind the white glow, as if it was some kind of firework.

However, as the mysterious object changes direction, the brightness also intensifies.

After spotting the intriguing object, Stephen posted the footage on Twitter on Saturday night (August 28) at 8.54pm.

Speaking on how he first reacted to the footage, he told KentLive: "I had the telescope out because there was a beautiful moon and I was waiting for it come come up.

"I could see out of the corner of my eye a sparkling object, which I initially thought was a shooting star.

"I shared it on Twitter to see if anyone had any good ideas as to what it could be."

One person responded to the Tweet and suggested it could be an acrobatic flying display team that uses pyrotechnics, however after searching for nearby events, Stephen could not find anything.

The bright glow could be seen in the Kent sky

"There has been a great deal of interest and a lot of people think it could be aliens visiting," he said.

"There was also a person who has written an extraterrestrial book and he's keen to examine the video in more detail.

"I looked at local events in the area, which also included Brands Hatch, but I couldn't see anything due to take place that evening."

After hearing many theories on what the mysterious glow could be, Steven lifted the lid on his own theory.

"It must have been some sort of plane, whether it was in difficulties or whether it was just practicing," he added.

"It's just bizarre that no one has got any idea or has come forward with any credible explanation."
