A mum has vowed never to return to Pontins Camber Sands after a "disgusting" holiday.

Nadine Phillips, 28, stayed at the site with her friend, 29, and her six-year-old son from July 31 to August 7.

She said that she had stayed at Pontins before, but her experience was entirely different to what greeted her on her recent stay.

After paying £414 for their week-long getaway, Nadine was expecting to unwind after the challenges with the COVID pandemic and prolonged lockdowns.

Speaking of her motivation to book the trip, she told KentLive: "After all the lockdowns I thought it would be nice to try and get away for a little while.

"My child didn't understand the lockdowns so I wanted to get a break after everything."

Nadine took her friend and her son down from where they live in St Albans, but soon started to realise things weren't how they should be upon arrival.

"It started when we turned up and saw the queue," she said.

"It was all the way out the door and we were there for around an hour just to check in which wasn't a great start.

"We then arrived at the chalet and saw a number of issues."

Pontins has been slammed in a number of negative reviews

Nadine explained that the floor appeared to be dirty upon their arrival and a drawer had been pulled out of the unit.

This was found over the other side of the room by the sofa.

There were also no doors on the wardrobe.

The cupboard appeared to be damaged

"I then opened the fridge and thought I can't be putting my food in there without disinfecting it first," she said.

"We then came to cook and there were a number of greasy, smelly trays just sitting there in the oven.

"The room also smelt a bit musky so we tried to open the windows and discovered something else that was quite weird."

Although they were on the ground floor, some of the windows appeared to be sealed shut.

The bedding was also another thing which left Nadine disappointed with her visit.

"It just felt like paper," she said.

"We paid £5 each for the bedding and it was so uncomfortable to the point where I just could not sleep with it in the end.

"I literally slept on the bare mattress in the end, I could not sleep on that.

"I suppose it's good for kids because they don't know any different, but as an adult it makes you think it's not great."

Nadine revealed that during the week-long stay the thought of leaving early did cross her mind, but she decided to stay due to the amount of money spent on the trip.

Green mould could be seen in the fridge

She also says there didn't seem to be much point in complaining at reception due to what she was told when she arrived.

"They said straight away that they wouldn't be able to switch us to any other rooms," she added.

"I'm glad my child enjoyed himself but it definitely was not worth the money – I would not be going back there again.

"You would have at least expected it to be clean, especially off the back of a national pandemic."
