The August Bank Holiday will bring a final taste of summer heat before we head into autumn, according to forecasters.

Kent's summer has been disappointing, with just one blast of summery weather in July breaking through the wet, dreary and dismal conditions that have defined 2021.

Previous predictions of a mid-August heatwave have repeatedly fizzled out, as conditions have been decidedly un-summery for most of the month.

However, the Met Office are bringing a spot of hope to the end of August, as three days of sun to bask in are predicted for the south east.

The weather won't be tropical by any means – with highs in the low 20s being about average for this time of year – but the chance of sun breaking through grey skies will be a welcome prospect for us all.

Bizarrely, the Met Office has shown that the rest of Europe has enjoyed the hottest summer on record, despite the UK managing to miss out on the best of the heat.

However, conditions should just about hold out for the long weekend, giving everyone a few days to enjoy what's left of this year's warmest months.

A Met Office forecaster said: "High pressure is likely to dominate through the end of August and the start of September, resulting in fine and settled weather across the UK.

The end of August will see some much-needed warmth hit Kent.

"This will bring variable amounts of cloud, sunny spells, a few light showers, and some fog patches overnight, which clear during early morning.

Until then, Thursday and Friday will be variably cloudy with the chance of a few showers, before conditions clear into the weekend.
