Latest Kent COVID figures as cases remain high in Thanet and rise across the county

COVID cases continue to surge in most parts of Kent, according to the latest figures.

Of the 12 local authorities shown under the government's data, there has been an increase in COVID cases in eight of these areas.

Some 648 new cases were recorded in Thanet over the week leading up to August 20, which is an increase from the 433 recorded the week prior.

Gravesham also saw cases increase compared to the previous week, and was Kent's second-highest authority in terms of new COVID cases after recording 357 with an infection rate of 334.

Despite having the lowest infection rate, Swale also recorded an increase in the number of new COVID cases.

This was 314, which rose from the 286 that were noted the week prior.

Of the four authorities where cases decreased, Medway saw the biggest drop off with 655 cases recorded compared to the 751 from the week before.
