Kent has been named as one of the top thrill-seeking destinations in the UK by Red Letter Days.
New research by the experience day voucher company revealed the top ten locations for adrenaline and adventure staycations in the UK.
Using their annual booking data, Red Letter Days created an Adrenaline & Adventure Guide, revealing Kent as the second best destination in the UK for thrill-seekers, with Yorkshire topping the list.
Neuro linguistic programming psychologist, Rebecca Lockwood, said: “Adrenaline-inducing activities attract people because it’s a thrill that takes them away from the usual day to day routine.
"People look for thrill-seeking activities because they want to be pushed outside of their comfort zone neurologically, a sensation of which some people enjoy the feeling."
According to Red Letter Days, Kent has plenty of heart-pumping activities to offer, from indoor skydiving to helicopter rides for two.
Red Letter Days found a total of 51 adrenaline opportunities, from off-road driving in a 4×4, to the thrill of experiencing daredevil heights from the basket of a hot air balloon during sunrise.
With private booking and trend data, Red Letter Days were able to crown the top 10 destinations in the UK for adrenaline junkies, offering a range of experiences from family-led to solo trips.
Rebecca added: “The health benefits for the mind and body from adrenaline and adventure-inducing activities can be significant in day-to-day life.
"Taking a step away from your comfort zone can really help with grounding. When you push yourself to physically and mentally do an activity away from the normal routine, the return to a daily life allows your body to absorb the neurological and emotional differences, which can offer huge benefits to your mental health and space for mindfulness!”
UK’s Top 10 Adrenaline & Adventure Destinations
Yorkshire came top of the list with 69 adrenaline and adventure experience spots.
It got its title thanks to the huge range of car driving experiences, but there are plenty of other options if racing cars aren't your thing, including a 15,000 feet Tandem Skydive and the opportunity to drive a JCB.
Nearby Essex also came in strong at third place, with 46 adventure-led experiences.
As the most wooded county in England, Essex is no stranger to outdoor activity – visitors can enjoy an eye-pleasing aerobatic flight in a modern light Cessna 152 aerobat, or explore Essex by zooming around on a Segway.
Red Letter Days Buying Director, Tom Redpath, said: “There are plenty of staycation lists out there this year, but none quite like this. We wanted to pinpoint to people where they can have the most thrill-filled experiences right here in the UK.
“Places such as Yorkshire, Kent and Essex might not be the obvious choices for a staycation this summer, as many flock to coastal towns such as Devon and Cornwall, or up to the busy Lake District in Cumbria.
“It’s about time we showed people what the UK is really capable of, by outlining all the crazy and exciting activities you can enjoy right here on our doorstep."
