Huge emergency response in Tonbridge as rescue teams search river for missing man – live updates

A huge emergency response has been seen in Tonbridge in recent days and continues today (August 20).

Rescue crews were first spotted near the river between the swimming pool and the park on Wednesday evening (August 18).

Locals reported seeing emergency services and scuba divers at the scene.

Police and Kent Fire and Rescue Service vehicles have been seen parked in the Poundland car park, as well as the Canoe Club car park, which is further along the river.

The focus of the search appears to be in the river itself, with frogmen also seen in attendance as well as a helicopter and a drone overhead which were used to gain an aerial vantage point.

Specialist Water and Sonar team members from Kent Search and Rescue were today deployed for the third consecutive day as they assist in the search for the missing person.

Kent Police issued a statement earlier this week urging members of the public to help find a missing pensioner in the Tonbridge area.

Rescue crews seen in River Medway

Specialist Water and Sonar team members from Kent Search and Rescue were today deployed for the third consecutive day as they assist in the search for the missing person.

Frogmen have even been spotted entering the water, while other locals reported seeing scuba divers on Wednesday evening (August 18).

Police update on search for missing person

Kent Police has confirmed the reason behind the search.

A statement by the police force indicated officers are currently by the River Medway in Tonbridge.

This is in connection with a search for a missing person.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Police officers are currently in the area of the River Medway in Tonbridge town centre in connection with a search for a missing person"

Bridge closed off

The main bridge used to cross the River Medway was taped off by police.

The bridge is situated between Tonbridge swimming pool and the park.
