COVID infections have risen sharply in three parts of Kent this week – Dartford, Dover and Thanet.

The latter has recorded the fourth biggest rise in England this week with 454 new cases, compared to 280 the week before.

Dartford remains the most infected area in the county with 392 new cases, an infection rate of 343.7 per 100,000 people.

The positive news is that local COVID death figures still remain far below the levels seen in previous waves.

In the four weeks up to August 6, a total of 30 Kent residents died with COVID-19 on their death certificate.

Twelve died in the four weeks before, and 16 across the four weeks before that.

It compares to the turn of the year, when well over 200 people from Kent were dying every week.

Across the country, over half of local areas (58%) have seen a week-on-week rise in rates, with 40% seeing a fall.

Hull continues to have the highest rate, with 1,629 new cases in the seven days to August 14 – the equivalent of 628.7 per 100,000 people.

The list below for Kent districts has been calculated by the PA news agency based on Public Health England data published on August 18 on the Government’s coronavirus dashboard.

From left to right it reads: name of local authority; rate of new cases in the seven days to August 14; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to August 14; rate of new cases in the seven days to August 7; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to August 7.
