Section of A2 near Canterbury to be closed all weekend for eight weeks running

Authroities have confirmed a section of the A2 near Canterbury will be closed for eight weekends in a row.

The road is a major route for Kent motorists, linking north Kent to Canterbury and Dover.

The closure will be in place in both directions between Wincheap and Brenley Corner.

The first weekend for the "carriageway repairs" will be Friday September 3.

The road will close at 8pm every Friday and will not reopen again until 6am on Monday mornings for the duration of the works.

They will last for eight weekends in a row thereafter.

A Canterbury City Council spokesman said: "Highways England has informed us that they will be fully closing the A2 in both directions between Wincheap and Brenley Corner for up to 8 weekends in a row starting on Friday 3 September.

"Traffic affected by the closure will be diverted to the A299 and the A256.

"The closure is in place to allow Highways England to undertake carriageway repairs and all associated works."
