M25 Dartford Crossing tunnel closures are cancelled

Plans to close the Dartford Crossing tunnels over the next few weeks have been scrapped.

Drivers had initially been warned that the planned repair works would run at various times throughout August and September.

However, Highways England confirmed the maintenance work has been pushed back.

The repair works will still take place at a later date, although the full details are not yet known.

Initial plans would have meant the tunnels were closed from 8pm to 10am Monday to Friday over certain weeks.

The decision was made to try and cause as little disruption as possible to drivers.

Drivers are already used to delays at the Dartford Crossing

Closures in both the east and west tunnels were planned in the works..

With lockdown restrictions easing, the M25 and Dartford Crossing is beginning to return to how it was pre-pandemic.

Long queues and delays have been reported at a rush-hour on a number of days recently.

The QEII bridge, which connects Kent with Essex, is currently the only crossing over the Thames.
