The castle's owners advertise the experience for events from honeymoons to special anniversaries to birthdays and fairytale experiences for children.

For £158 a night, visitors get access to the entire home which you enter through a grand black door on the side of the castle.

Inside the fortress is a luxury experience too.

The master bedroom includes a traditional canopied double bed and a dressing area in its own turret.

Downstairs there's an extra sofa bed, so the castle can fit a total of four guests.

There's also a living room with TV, modern kitchen and dining area, meaning guests can cater for themselves.

Given the pandemic's restrictions on travelling, the gothic Airbnb is already fully booked in the summer months.

The earliest openings at the time of publication are in September this year.

Scoring an average of 4.79 stars on Airbnb, it's a popular stay for those who make the trip, and here's what some had to stay.

One visitor wrote: "We loved this little castle. It was such an enchanting home.

It's a fairytale stay

"We'd never slept anywhere with a turret before! My husband looked up the history and it was built to protect the army officers from the castle based on that street. Further down the road at No6 was where Winston Churchill stayed!

"It is like a tardis – the ground floor is really quite spacious with a lounge area and well-equipped kitchen."

Other reviewers praised the stay's proximity to Dover's main attractions and responsive hosts.

You can book a stay at the Dover castle on Airbnb.
