The A2 has been closed in both directions since 10.45am today after a collision at the Whitfield roundabout in Dover.
Significant delays are to be expected, and Kent Police have advised motorists to "avoid the area and seek alternative routes wherever possible".
Two lorries have reportedly been involved in the incident.
The Whitfield roundabout at the meeting of the A2 and A256 is blocked, meaning those in the area should travel with caution.
