Vaccine rates across Kent have fallen behind the rest of the country.

87.9 per cent of adults in the UK have now had their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, but every district in Kent has a below-average uptake of the jab.

As of Sunday (July 25), every part of Kent has a vaccine rate significantly lower than 87.9 per cent.

Dover has fared better than most of the county, with 84.9 per cent of adults having received their first dose of the jab.

It makes Dover the fourth most-vaccinated district in Kent, behind only Tonbridge & Malling, Sevenoaks, and Folkestone & Hythe.

However, Dover is still significantly behind the rest of the UK in terms of the vaccine roll-out, and some neighbourhoods in the district have a particularly low uptake.

Three neighbourhoods in the region have vaccine rates lower than 80 per cent, which will be of particular concern to public health officials in the area.

Dover East and Dover West are among the least-vaccinated neighbourhoods in Kent, with vaccine rates 73.6 and 71.1 per cent respectively, while Buckland & St. Radigunds also falls below 80 per cent.

Some Kent neighbourhoods, especially in Canterbury, are among the least vaccinated in the south east.

Blean Forest, Chartham Hatch & University is the Kent neighbourhood with the lowest uptake of the first vaccine dose.

Just 56.9 per cent of people in the neighbourhood have had their first vaccination, compared to an average of 87.9 per cent across the whole of the UK.

The number of COVID infections in Kent has rocketed in recent weeks, with many parts of the county now above the national average infection rate.
