COVID rates continue to dramatically increase across Kent, with infections doubling in many parts of the county.

In the seven day period between July 12 and July 19, there were 7,824 new COVID cases in Kent alone – up from 4,438 one week before.

Four districts in Kent have seen their infections rise by more than twofold in just seven days.

Thanet, Medway, and Tonbridge & Malling have all seen their infection rates increase by at least double.

Infections have also doubled in Kent's coronavirus hotspot; Dartford.

Dartford is now amongst the most infected parts of England with an infection rate of 611.9 per 100,000 people.

This marks an increase of more than 100 per cent compared to the week before, when Dartford had a rate of 300.2 per 100,000, with more than 650 new cases in the town.

However, while infections continue to shoot up across England, deaths have remained relatively low.

There were 64 daily deaths yesterday (July 23), down from 84 the day before.

Infections have increased in all of Kent's 13 districts, including large rises in Sevenoaks and Maidstone.

Thanet remains one of the least affected regions in England.

With an infection rate of 182.5 per 100,000 – well under half the national average of 497.1 – Thanet remains the country's second-least infected town.
