Fire crews are currently at the scene of a house fire in Littlebourne Road, Canterbury, close to the city centre after smoke was seen pouring from the roof of a property.
The A256 Littlebourne Road has been closed while firefighters attend to the blaze.
Residents are being asked to close their windows and doors.
According to authorities at the scene the road is likely to be kept shut for at least 90 minutes.
The alarm was raised at 4am on Monday and crews wearing breathing apparatus are tackling the flames with two main hoses and a height vehicle.
It is reported that Kent Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service are also in attendance.
in a tweet at 5.04am, Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "People in the LittlebourneRoad area of Canterbury are asked to close windows and doors due to a smoke plume from a fire in a house nearby.
"Please pass this message on to anyone who doesn't have social media and may be affected. Thank you."

Roads and traffic monitoring service Inrix reports: "A257 Littlebourne Road in both directions closed due to building fire at a house from Windmill Road to Warwick Road. Affecting traffic in and out of Canterbury."
