Kent is known for its picturesque locations and historical significance, but its thriving food and drinks scene is also something to be admired.

They are plenty of five star offerings in the county according to reviewers hotfooting it to Tripadvisor

KentLive has scoured the site for the absolute best of the best – according to reviewers.

Please Sir!

A selection of some of the burgers at Please Sir!

With an impressive 126 excellent reviews on TripAdvisor out of a possible 129, Please Sir! is not a bad place to start this list.

Located in Broadstairs the burger joint is a firm favourite among the locals, with one reviewer describing it as the best burger and chips they had ever had.

Their 'limitless burger', cajun fries and Daim milkshakes all appear to be popular menu items.

Stark

Staying in Broadstairs, we have Stark, which has the impressive distinction of having one Michelin star.

Their slogan of 'good food, laid bare' seems to sum up their offerings quite effectively, with a frequently-changing seasonal six course tasting menu providing many delights.

Their menus also offer the option of a distinct fine wine pairing with each dish to best suit the palette.

Sofia's Colombian Kitchen

Switching cusines up just a little, we have Sofia's Colombian Kitchen in Tunbridge Wells, earning a splendid 208 excellent reviews out of a possible 220.

Its meat empanadas and fried arepas are particular highlight of the South American dishes it has on offer.

The atmosphere and service have also been praised as excellent.

The Little Place…Next Door

The Little Place Next Door

Next up is The Little Place…Next Door in Folkestone.

Serving all-day breakfast and lunches, as well as Sunday roasts, cake and tea & coffee, it has a lot going on.

Their traditional breakfasts and roast dinners appear to be the popular menu items which get the most love.

New Street Bistro

The New Street Bistro in Margate has made a bit of a name for itself with 90 excellent reviews on TripAdvisor out of 94.

it's on the slightly more fancier side of things, with dishes including pan fried lamb rump with mint pancetta and lamb jus, to potato and oyster mushroom dumplings.

Chef owner Tomas Eriksson infuses Scandinavian cuisine into his own classic Bistro style to create a variety of excellent seasonal dishes.

Hide and Fox

It didn't take too long for another restaurant with a Michelin star to appear.

The Hide & Fox in Hythe had a reputation for intimate fine dining.

Five or eight course meals are on option with dishes such as duck liver parfait and raw Orkney scallops available.

Annapurna Nepalese Restaurant

This Nepalese restaurant based in Folkestone provides authentic cuisine from the country based on home cooking.

A wide variety of flavours and dishes are available including sekuwa, tarkari and sandeko.

It claims to be the only Nepalese restaurant in and around Kent, so it would appear to be the best place to go if you want to sample authentic food from the country.

Goose on the Green Cafe

This cafe describes itself as "trendy" with "vintage industrial styling, using only the freshest locally sourced ingredients and only the best coffee beans."

It is based in Walmer, and received rave reviews for its speedy service, great food and hot drinks.

If you find yourself nearby you could do worse for items such as toasties, omelettes and a variety of breakfasts.

Marley's

Marley’s is another Folkestone restaurant that makes the list, with one TripAdvisor review describing it as the best in the town.

They say their menu is inspired by British comfort food, with a selection of burgers as well as pork belly, buttermilk chicken and tuna steak.

The Marley’s Bowl which is jam-packed with salad ingredients and a creamy risotto are also superb veggie options.

The Hilltop Restaurant

This establishment in Stansted is rated as the number one restaurant in the town and by the sounds of the reviews deserves its reputation.

Bruised blade of beef, confit of duck leg and pan-fried fillet of sea bream are just some of its dishes that sound absolutely scrumptious.

Reviews praising its staff, well-cooked food and unfussy approach make it seem a perfect fit to dine at.

Bollywood Buffet

Considered the number one restaurant in Gillingham, and one of the best Indian restaurants in the county, the Bollywood Buffet has earnt high praise indeed.

It's a little flavour bomb that encompasses the best that curry dishes have to offer.

The Green Door Deli

A great option for savoury and sweet foods alike, with their sharing platters and cakes drawing plenty of people in.

Situated in Herne Bay, the Green Door Deli has been described as "ultimate indulgence" by one reviewer.

With specials such as bacon, brie and cranberry tarts, almond croissants and veggie turnovers available who can blame them?

Rated as the number one restaurant in Canterbury, the Corner House is one to look out for.

The first restaurant on this list with a Mediterranean flavour to it, the Amici in Ashford has sure made an impact with diners.

Another number one restaurant, this time for West Malling, was described as having the "ciabatta from heaven" by one reviewer.

A rustic cafe just off the high street in Tunbridge Wells, Casa Da Claudia is a superb choice for brunch if you are in the area.

Whether you're grabbing a Full English, panini or patisserie, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The Holy Pundit

We're back to Asian cuisine with the Indian fusion restaurant, the Holy Pundit.

Hythe is the location, with their lamb shank rogan josh being one particular dish that's been heaped with praise.

The Parlour

Located in Birchington, the Parlour is the number one restaurant in the town.

With a 1940s period decor it has some character, and it prides itself on serving freshly prepared and locally sourced ingredients.

The Greyhound

The Greyhound Pub

Charcott's number one restaurant and pub, the Greyhound is a great place to try out.

It has its own farm just two miles from the venue, where its produce makes its way onto the menu.

Its rustic pizzas and Sunday roasts are particular points of praise.

The Wine Bar

Another one from Herne Bay comes in the simply named, the Wine Bar.

However, don't let that fool you into thinking the food that is served their is anything but simple.

Perfectly cooked steak and lamb are some of the delights you can sample there.

Secret Spices

Another quality Indian outlet, Secret Spices can be found in Margate.

Like all of the restaurants on here, the service was described as excellent, and the usual curry dishes lived up to high standards.

The Wallflower Cafe

Another restaurant from Herne Bay. They must love their high-quality food out there!

The Wallflower Cafe describes itself as an independent cafè serving Vegan food, which is all sourced locally, and good coffee.

They specialise in gluten-free, colourful and health food.

Some of the what you can try out include the falafel Buddha bowl and their own version of rarebit.

Bottega Caruso

Like Herne Bay, places in Margate also seem to be popping up quite often. Bottega Caruso is another one of their treasures.

"A taste of Southern Italy" is how one reviewer put it, with plenty of great pasta dishes and tiramisu to add to the experience.

Zara's Cafe

Zara's Cafe is situated in Birchington, and is renowned for its busy, but friendly atmosphere.

All day breakfast can be found here, with high-quality sandwiches, baguettes and jacket potatoes to enjoy.

The Pheasant Plucker

This intriguingly named establishment can be found in Ide Hill, not too far from Sevenoaks.

The pub has retained its character with exposed beams, stunning fireplaces and corner after corner of cosy nooks and crannies.

Locally sourced and expertly made food can also be found with the likes of Hampshire chalk stream trout fillet and duck magret.

The best restaurant in the town of Minster according to TripAdvisor, it's another one of the Corner House restaurants.

Once again its frequently changing menu seems to be a hit, but it's the atmosphere and ambience that really seems to sell it to reviewers.

The Dog at Wingham Restaurant

The number one restaurant in Wingham near Canterbury is The Dog at Wingham.

The cosy pub has a certain charm to it with its exposed oak beams and fireplaces, while the food can't be forgotten as well.

Courgette veloute as a starter and caramelised onion tart with sevenscore asparagus are just some of the delectable things you can find on the menu.

The Yew Tree Inn

Yew Tree Inn in Maidstone

The Yew Tree Inn in Maidstone has managed to amass a decent number of excellent reviews, with 664 out of the 839 on TripAdvisor feeling that way about it.

Its most recent review described it as "Another wonderful evening" demonstrating that it clearly leaves an impression on those who attend.

A home made pie of the day and a pork tenderloin stuffed with chorizo and brie are some of its dishes.

Toad Rock Retreat

A multi-award winning pub in Tunbridge Wells, which offers a variety of real ales, refreshing beer and wine.

It describes itself on its website as having a menu that "offers hearty and freshly prepared dishes".

At this moment in time it is not open for food due to staff shortages, but hopes to bring it back soon.

Deblyns Teashop & Garden

Deblyn's Tea Shop & Garden

This 700-year-old tearoom in New Romney has done well to receive 185 excellent reviews out of a possible 217 on TripAdvisor.

Cream and vintage teas are popular there, which can be enjoyed in a small coffee lounge or a courtyard garden.

Sandwiches, paninis and jacket potatoes are also served.

Coppers

Coppers Spice Cafe and Wine bar in Hythe is yet another Indian fusion restaurant that makes it high on the list.

They aim to create a buzz with their flavours by bringing a new take on your usual curry dishes and bringing fresh local ingredients to the table.

A recent review claimed it was the best Indian they had ever experienced.

Vittle and Swig

Describing its offerings as "contemporary British cuisine" on its website, the Vittle and Swig in Tunbridge Wells is regarded with high class.

Items such as BBQ Hispi cabbage, Scotch pancakes and crispy duck benedict can be enjoyed there.

Il Posticino

It has been a while since we had an Italian restaurant show up, so Il Posticino in Canterbury can do the business there.

A great mixture of steak and pasts dishes can be found, with truffle-stuffed tortellini sounding particularly delectable.

The Bouverie Tap

This independently run bar/restaurant in Folkestone was only opened in 2017, but has clearly made an impression to make it onto this list.

A wide selection of beer and win can be found, with a lot of classic British cuisine thrown in for good measure.

The half a kilogram of fresh steamed mussels in a garlic, cream and white wine sauce might be the most interesting thing to try there.

The Dove Dargate

A lovely gastropub in the small town of Dargate which was refurbished and reopened in 2018.

The Dove offers a menu of fresh seasonal and local produce that is presented to the highest of standards, which diners have enjoyed with a relaxed atmosphere and highly-coveted cocktails.

Rendez-Vous

The first restaurant on this list to have French cuisine, the Rendez-Vous is a brasserie-style establishment in Tunbridge Wells.

A big part of the menu comprises game, which is all from the countryside around Tunbridge Wells and is prepared from plucking to roasting at the restaurant.

Il Tricolore

From French back to Italian, we return with the Il Tricolore in Ramsgate, rated as the number one restaurant in the town.

It has been providing high-quality Italian food, wine and beers since it opened in 2014, with its website saying its dishes have a "home-cooked feel."

The menu has all the types of pasta, pizza and calzone dishes you would ever require.

Sotirio's Bar & Restaurant

The Mediterranean vibe is being kept over for the next establishment on this list, but we're shifting over to Greece this time.

Sotiro's Bar

The Poet at Matfield

This rustic-style pub is named after the war poet Siegfried Sassoon, and offers modern and sophisticated dishes in the small town of Matfield.

Fine dining is the aim here, and you can even try beef carpaccio with lobster at the venue.

Kathton House

We're off to another new location in Kent, with Sturry, where we can find Kathton House.

Its website boasts of upmarket contemporary eating in an intimate atmosphere, where all food is created on the premises.

With the likes of Godmersham venison and crab and spinach ravioli as some of the options, it'll go down a right treat.

The Vintage Empire

Herne Bay strikes again with this lovely little cafe with a 1940s theme.

It even has afternoon teas named after Winston Churchill and Vera Lynn, alongside 'Undercounter Specials' such as the homemade giant scotch egg.

Angela's Seafood Restaurant

The first seafood specific restaurant on this list, Angela's can be found in Margate.

The ethos of the establishment is fiercely local and sustainable, with the menu based on what is caught off the boats in the morning.

Shakey Shakey Fish Bar

Fish and Chips in a slightly upmarket style is available to try in Ramsgate.

It has also drawn people in with its gluten and wheat free menu that's all topped off with its mysterious Shakey Shakey topping.

The White Horse

They are potentially thousands of pubs called the White Horse around the UK, but one from Dover has apparently struck a chord with diners.

Out of a possible 663 reviews, 447 of them were considered to be excellent on TripAdvisor, which is nothing to smirk at.

Sitting in the shadow of Dover Castle, people are able to sample premium drinks and home-cooked food in cosy surroundings.

Victuals & Co.

A casual contemporary dining establishment in Deal using the the best of local fresh produce wherever possible.

Like many places on the list its menu changes depending on the seasons and the chefs consistently try to find high quality and diversity in the dishes.

Market House

A beautiful pub with stylish decor located right in the heart of Maidstone, Market House is as good a place as any to grab a bite in the area.

The menu includes everything from small tapas-style plates and superfood salads to spinach tortilla wraps and burgers.

Of course, the dishes are all cooked with local ingredients where possible, but you wouldn't expect any different at this point would you?

Mortimers Restaurant

The number of excellent reviews of Mortimer's Restaurant numbers 353 out of a possible 429, which is still a great rate for one of the last establishments on this list.

Situated in Herne Bay, they have been praised for their excellent service and wide range of dishes.

Their afternoon tea is a particular point of quality that is consistently mentioned.

Montalbano

The number one restaurant in Tenterden means that we're still coming to new locations in Kent as we find ourselves at the penultimate entry.

Serving up rich Italian food, one reviewer described it as being "excellent in every way."

Olivo Margate

What do you know, it's also an Italian restaurant that finishes off the list, coming in with 174 excellent reviews out of a possible 225.

Located at sea front they only use the finest and freshest ingredients, prepared by their talented Italian chef.

Everything is prepared freshly of course, going through a vast array of pizzas with delicious toppings, lasagne, antipasti, tiramisu, bruschetta and much more.
