A search is underway to find a man in the River Medway.

Police were called to the scene at 4.39pm on Friday afternoon (July 9) to concern of a man seen in the river in Maidstone.

Officers are in attendance alongside Kent Search and Rescue and the South East Coast Ambulance.

The emergency response vehicles are near the River Medway, close to the House of Fraser store in the town centre.

A footpath close to the scene has also been taped off.

A helicopter has also been seen circling in the skies above the River Medway.

A lane closure is also in place on the A229 Fairmeadow heading north after St Peters Bridge.

This means that there are currently long delays for those approaching the town centre.
