A heavy emergency services response has been seen in Maidstone this afternoon (July 9).

Police, fire fighters and ambulance all rushed to the town centre after being called to the incident.

The location of the response is focused around the River Medway, near the House of Fraser store.

There are also reports of a helicopter circling near the scene.

A lane closure is also in place on the A229 Fairmeadow heading north after St Peters Bridge.

This means that there are currently long delays for those approaching the town centre.

One person has taken to Twitter urging others to avoid Maidstone.

They say the one-way system by the river is jammed, and there is a huge emergency response.

This is causing "travel chaos" throughout Maidstone.
