He was last seen in the Canterbury Road area wearing a black t-shirt and grey fleece jacket.
His death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
Martin was a very popular figure in the local area and was probably better known as his alias, 'The Kent Magician'.
The talented magician performed at events across the county and has brought a smile to many faces over the years showing off his tricks.
Many people who knew Martin have taken to social media to pay their respects.
"Oh my god, a very sad day," one person wrote.
"So sad, it was a pleasure to know you Martin. What a lovely man you were, we never know what is hiding behind that smile," another added.
A third said: "I have tried to stay away from here whilst trying to find the words but i could spend a year trying to find them
"Martin Collins you were one of a kind and you leave a massive gap in my families and friends lives!"
Others who have witnessed Martin's magic skills in the years gone by also paid their respects.
One said: "So sad. An amazingly talented man. RIP Martin Collins."
"Please can we all spare a thought for the family and friends of Martin at this very sad time," another added.
Wedding specialist Sugar Promotions, who worked alongside Martin for several events, called him a "true gentleman".
A spokesman said: "We are truly saddened to learn of the passing of a lovely friend and colleague this morning, Martin Collins.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. A true gentleman who filled the room with laughter.
"It's a sad loss to our community of Herne Bay and the wedding Industry in Kent. He was a very special part of our own wedding day and we will always treasure those memories."
A teammate of Martin's former football team also shared a touching tribute, saying: "The first season I had at Herne Bay was the best.
"I don't think we realised at the time but we had a wicked bunch of lads and what made it special was Martin Collins.
"Always smiling and telling a joke, RIP mate, he'll be missed by a lot of people."
