Crash on the A2 causes miles of delays near Bluewater – live updates

There are three mile queues on the A2 this afternoon after an accident.

Two lanes are closed after an accident which is believed to have involved two cars.

The accident has caused queuing traffic for three miles on the Westbound carriageway with delays of over 20 minutes.

Traffic is queuing back to before M25 J2 (Darenth Interchange) with traffic around Bluewater likely to be affected.

Pictures taken on the traffic cameras show two cars spun round on the carriageway.

Full statement from Kent Police on the A2 crash

Kent Police was called at 2.15pm on Wednesday 23 June 2021 to a report of a two car collision on the London-bound A2, close to the flyover for the Dartford Crossing.
Officers are in attendance alongside South East Coast Ambulance Service, who are assessing for injuries at the scene.
Lane closures are currently in place and motorists may encounter some delays.

Pictures show queuing traffic on the M25 and A2

As is often the case, a hold-up on the M25 has a knock on affect on the A2 with queueing traffic now stretching back to Gravesend.

The left hand tunnel on the M25 at Dartford was closed for a short while debris was cleared.

What do we know so far?

  • Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to debris on road on M25 Dartford Tunnel anticlockwise from J1A A206 (Dartford) to J31 A1306 (Lakeside / Purfleet).
  • Congestion to J2 (Darenth Interchange).
  • On the A2, one lane closed and queueing traffic for three miles due to accident, two cars involved on A2 Westbound before M25 J2 (Darenth Interchange).

The left hand tunnel is blocked. Northbound traffic is being diverted via the East Tunnel (which is the taller of the two).
