The co-owner of a Maidstone barber shop said he was 'honoured' after a famous face paid a visit.

Former Manchester United and Ireland football star Roy Keane turned up at The Hairy Bear in Bearsted, Maidstone on Wednesday (June 16).

The Euro 2020 pundit, it appears, was after a serious makeover.

And while getting a trim, Keane is understood to have shown a slightly 'softer' side to the one we're used to seeing on TV.

The football pundit took pictures with staff members and even left a generous tip, while also claiming he'd return to the shop next week.

Donda Michaelas has been a co-owner of the barbers on Ashford Road since it opened around two-and-a-half years ago.

"He came in on his own and hadn't booked, he just walked in and we gave him a Hairy Bear Special," he told KentLive.

"I think he came up from Tudor Park which is also on our road.

"No customers in the shop actually recognised him until the very end when he started having pictures with our staff members."

Keane is just one of many famous faces from the world of football currently spending some time in Maidstone.

ITV is using Maidstone Studios for its coverage of EURO 2020, and the ex-footballer popped into The Hairy Bear to get his iconic beard shaved.

"He is by far the most famous person we have ever had in the shop," added Donda.

"The man has won Premier Leagues and a Champions League, it was an absolute privilege for us.

"It's an honour for him to come into our shop, even though I am a Liverpool supporter and my co-owner is a West Ham fan!

"Who knows, hopefully he passes on a good word to the likes of Patrick Vieira who he's filming with.

"I also run a fish and chip shop next door so I want him to come and try them as well."

Keane told the staff that he'd be back next week, so perhaps the Irishman's youthful look is here to stay on our TV screens for a little longer.
