Year 11 pupils at Sandwich Technology School have been left heartbroken after they were told not to return for their last day of school today (May 28).
The final year pupils were set to have their last day in the classroom after completing assessments this week.
However they were told not to return in a surprise announcement just ten minutes before the end of school yesterday (May 27).
In an email sent to parents just before 5pm, Year 11 manager Anna Kerley said that, after careful analysis of evidence gathered over the past term, the school decided the Year 11s were not required for the final day.

Anthony Noble, whose 16-year-old daughter Summer is a Year 11 pupil at the school, said: “This is a big landmark time for the kids, everyone remembers their last day at school.
“I feel like they’ve had their memories stolen away from them.”
Anthony, from Aylesham near Dover, said the pupils were looking forward to saying goodbye to their friends after what had been a “pretty nasty year”.
He said Summer was “inconsolable” after receiving the news, explaining that none of her peers would be returning to the school for sixth form making it unlikely they will all see each other again.
However the email to parents did state a party for school leavers was being arranged.
Students had made leaver’s shirts for their friends to sign and teachers had planned treats for their final day.
According to Summer one of her English teachers, who was unaware of the plans, was close to tears during the announcement.
It does not appear that the decision was related to COVID restrictions.
Anthony added: “My best guess is that they’re worried the students are planning pranks or something.”
The school have planned a leaver’s party in June but due to the uncertainty of lockdown restrictions, pupils do not trust whether this will go ahead.
