A 30mph speed limit has been implemented on the M25 at the Dartford Crossing as strong winds batter Kent.

A yellow weather warning is currently in place in the county, expiring at 9pm on Friday (May 21).

The Met Office says the wind ‘may lead to some travel disruption and, perhaps, damage to temporary outdoor structures’.

It’s the first weekend since coronavirus restrictions eased across England with two households now allowed to meet indoors.

With domestic travel restrictions eased and a loosening of rules on who you can meet and where you can meet, many friends and family may be meeting up for the first time in a long time.

If the wind picks up enough however, the Dartford Crossing would have to be closed with all traffic going through the tunnels.

However Highways England has confirmed that traffic was running smoothly on Friday (May 21) morning with no restrictions expected.

The 30mph speed limits have been described as a ‘precaution’.

There were long delays on the M25 on Thursday after a lorry lost its load.

Drivers were delayed by 90 minutes as the rubble was cleared.
