And it was inundated with responses from across the nation, with other supermarket workers commenting on their frustration, especially when it comes to people not wearing masks or being confrontational.
The post titled 'I wish people were more respectful of supermarket workers' was made by u/Disguustang and detailed their experiences working with some customers.
They said: "I can’t count how many times I’ve been shoved out of the way when I’m trying to put something on the shelf or people rudely reaching over me instead of kindly asking me to step out of the way.
"I’ve given up telling people to wear something on their face. They get incredibly confrontational. Policy is that I can’t serve them otherwise. We’ve been doing this for an entire year you’d think they would be more in tune with the times.
"People throw their shopping down on the counter and then huff loudly ushering me to hurry up like I’m some personal butler.
"Just the general lack of respect is huge. I’m a human being. Just because I’m behind a till it doesn’t make me anything less."
Many people rushed to console the shop worker, as well as thank them for their hard work.
One person said: "I wish people were more respectful in general.
"Thanks for all your hard work!! You shouldn't have to put up with that ****".
And the original poster responded: "Thank you! I’ve just accepted it at this point.
"In seven years of being in retail and hospitality this is by far the most difficult year.
"The scale of ineptitude has risen to heights I never thought were possible".
Others came to the support the worker in the thread. One person wrote: "It's a mentality that I'll never understand. Like, you're providing me a service, why would I be rude to you?
"Supermarkets really ought to be getting bouncers or something to enforce mask policy. Floor staff don't get paid enough."
While another wrote: "I wholeheartedly agree. I don't understand why people can't just say "excuse me" rather than reach over you or squeeze right past you. Please and thank yous are also in short supply, it seems."
