Kent is home to as many as 30 castles which have stood the test of time.

And some of these castles boast the most magnificent gardens that will leave many in awe of their presence.

Filled with hidden history, achingly beautiful architecture and vast views of the surrounding countryside, castles are always a solid day out.

Some of our favourites include the legendary Leeds Castle, Rochester Castle and Dover Castle, but which ones have the best gardens?

But due to the coronavirus pandemic, the nation isn't allowed to visit indoor spaces just yet.

However, people may not know that you can visit the grounds of many castles in Kent right now.

So you what are you waiting for?

Here is our list of the top ten most magnificent castle gardens that you can visit this weekend.

Scotney Castle

Scotney Castle

Opening times: Monday- Sunday 10am- 5pm

Scotney Castle is said to have a romantic garden with a view of the 14th century moated castle and Victorian country mansion, all within a beautiful wooded estate.

Along with the beautiful gardens, the castle's tea room is open for limited refreshments, as a takeaway only.

Leeds Castle

Opening times: Monday- Sunday 10am- 6pm

Leeds Castle has not one, not two, but three incredible gardens for visitors to enjoy.

From the Princess Alexandra Gardens to Lady Baillie Mediterranean Garden Terraces and the Culpeper Garden, you won't be bored for a second.

The playgrounds, gardens, adventure golf, maze, bird of prey centre, black swan ferry, mobility bus, shops and catering kiosks are now open.

Walmer Castle

Walmer Castle has lovely gardens

Opening times: Monday- Sunday 10am- 5pm

Walmer Castle has over eight acres of award-winning gardens, situated in the grounds of the picturesque coastal property.

As well as the surrounding gardens of Walmer Castle there is also takeaway catering available, and their shop is open.

Sissinghurst Castle

Sissinghurst Castle Gardens are now open

Opening times: Monday- Sunday 11am- 5:30pm

The National Trust describes the incredible gardens at Sissinghurst Castle as "world renowned" and "historic, poetic, iconic".

At the castle in Cranbrook outdoor spaces are open along with the shop and plant shop.

The Granary restaurant is open for limited refreshments too.

Dover Castle

Dover Castle

Opening times: Monday- Sunday 10am- 5pm

Visitors can explore acres of wide open castle grounds, taking in the sites of the iconic White Cliffs.

The grounds at Dover Castle are open, as is takeaway catering and the shops.

Hever Castle

Hever Castle is said to be haunted by Anne Boleyn and her father Thomas Boleyn

Opening times: Monday- Sunday 10:30am- 6pm

Hever Castle gardens are magnificent and award-winning, set in 125 acres of glorious grounds.

The Loggia, overlooking the 38 acre lake, is the perfect spot to relax.

Visitors will be able to order takeaway food and drink, visit shops and enjoy some archery and boating during their trip to the castle.

Lullingstone Castle

Opening times: Friday- Sunday 12pm- 5pm

Lullingstone Castle Gardens combines plant heritage with cutting-edge horticulture – and apparently the plants are out of this world.

The castle's cafe will be open for takeaway food and drink only, with the gift shop also open.

Chiddingstone Castle

Opening times: Monday- Sunday 7am- 6:30pm

The grounds of Chiddingstone Castle are open every day, providing enchanting woodland walks, a fishing lake and spectacular views.

Whitstable Castle

Whitstable Castle has beautiful gardens surrounding the property

Opening times: Monday- Sunday 8am- 6pm

You can enjoy the fresh sea breeze, as you explore the three acre, stunning landscaped gardens surrounding the castle.

The play park is now open, alongside the castle tea rooms which have outside seating and are open from 10am to 5pm.

The castle tea hut is also open from 10am to 4pm, depending on the weather.

Rochester Castle

Opening times: Saturday 10am- 4pm

Despite the castle being closed for now, during one day a week, you get to take a peek at the surrounding gardens of Rochester Castle.
