Dartford Tunnel traffic delays after vehicle collision closes tunnel

There are delays building tonight (Thursday) after a traffic collision closed the Dartford Tunnel.

Highways England reported the incident in the eastbound tunnel shortly after 5pm.

The tunnel reopened around 5.50pm and traffic is currently stretching back for about an hour.

Police were at the scene, but all vehicles have now been recovered.

Highways England said there were eight miles of congestion.

They tweeted: "If travelling #Kent#Essexpls be aware the #A282#EastTunnel#M25is CLOSED northbound, traffic diverted via #WestTunnel.

"There are approx. 8 miles of congestion back to J4 #Orpington, expected to add 60-90 mins onto usual travel times."

Highways Eegland says:

There are long delays on the M25 anti-clockwise in Kent following an earlier collision within the A282 Dartford East Tunnel (located between the M25 J1A and J31). The tunnel was closed however is now fully open and all emergency services have left the scene.

There are approx. 8 miles of congestion back towards the M25 J4, this is likely to add 60 – 90 mins onto usual travel times.

Inris traffic system says:

Severe delays due to earlier accident on M25 Dartford Tunnel anticlockwise from J1A A206 (Dartford) to J31 A1306 (Lakeside / Purfleet).

Congestion to J4 (Orpington), further delays on the A2 around Darenth Interchange as traffic attempts to join the M25.

All lanes have been re-opened. Travel time is around 1 hour 35 minutes.

All restrictions have been lifted and traffic was released around 17:50. The right hand tunnel was closed following an earlier accident.

All vehicles have been recovered.
